Injuries are inflicted when a player sustains repeated damage. Injuries can be inflicted on any limb, the torso, or the head. Injuries are displayed either on your helmet’s HUD in the lower-left corner or via a scan using the Curelife medical tool. Below are the different types of injuries, how they affect you, and how and where they can be treated.
The 3 Levels of Severity
- Third-Party Injury Level 3: Minor injuries can be treated by any Level 3 medical bed, such as those on the Cutlass Red. This first level of injury reduces your maximum health and introduces a few gameplay effects, depending on where you were injured. If you are injured in the arms, it will be harder to aim, and the damage you deal with melee attacks will be reduced. If your legs are injured, your movement speed is reduced. If your torso is injured, your stamina is reduced and your character begins to wheeze. Finally, if it’s your head, your vision becomes blurry, sounds are muffled, and it takes you longer to recover from being stunned. No minor injuries require stabilization.
- Third-Party Injury 2: A moderate injury requires a Level 2 medical bed to be treated, such as those found in a clinic or the medical bays of larger ships like the Carrack or the 890 Jump. Moderate injuries significantly amplify the effects seen in minor injuries, with a few additions. In the event of a moderate injury, your character begins to limp and groan audibly in pain. If the moderate injury is sustained to the head or chest, it must be stabilized in a medical bed of any level.
- Third-Party Injury 1: A severe injury requires a Level 1 medical bed for treatment, such as those found in hospitals. Severe injuries further exacerbate the effects of moderate injuries, with even more serious consequences. A severe injury to the legs will force your character to lie down, unable to stand or crouch. If the injury is to the arms, your character will be unable to hold any objects. Severe injuries to the head or torso also require stabilization at any medical facility.
Location of Symptoms
- Arms: Difficulty using weapons or handling objects.
- Upper Body: Reduced endurance (sprinting, close-quarters combat).
- Legs: Decreased agility and speed.
- Head: Sensory disturbances and visual effects.
Specific Cases
- Hypoxia: Lack of oxygen (often when not wearing a helmet). Causes suffocation and rapid death; there is no treatment other than restoring oxygen supply.
- G-Force-Related Issues: Occurs when the player's ship accelerates (Black and Red Sail).
