Extraction Equipment and Scales (From the Multi-Tool to Mining Vessels)
Mining operations are organized around three levels of equipment: the Multi-Tool, a hand-held tool equipped with the OreBit attachment, for small ores (Aphorite, Dolivine, Hadanite) found on foot in caves or on the surface; land vehicles such as the Argo ATLS GEO or the Greycat ROC/ROC-DS, which can be transported aboard a spacecraft; and specialized mining spacecraft ranging from the single-seat MISC Prospector to the multi-seat Argo MOLE for asteroids and large deposits. All mining equipment and consumables are primarily distributed on the refining decks of L1 stations.

Mining in Star Citizen scales according to the size of the targeted ore deposits. There are three levels of equipment for mining, ranging from manual prospecting in caves to industrial drilling in space.
Manual extraction by foot
Manual mining is intended for very small deposits located in caves, on the surfaces of moons and planets, or within correctional facilities.
- Required tool: A multi-tool equipped with the OreBit Mining Attachment extraction head.
- Targeted Minerals: This equipment allows you to fracture and collect small, valuable veins such as Aphorite, Dolivine, or Hadanite.
On-Land Mining Vehicles
To process larger ore deposits that cannot be broken up with a simple hand tool, operators use specialized vehicles. These machines feature increased laser power and greater built-in storage capacity for transporting the ore.
- Argo ATLS GEO: Exoskeleton rescue suit.
- Greycat ROC: Single-seat wheeled land vehicle.
- Greycat ROC-DS: Two-seat wheeled land vehicle.
- Transport: These land vehicles can be transported directly to the exploration site aboard transport ships (starting at the size of a Cutlass).
Mining Ships
The largest deposits are found in the major rock formations on the planets' surfaces or directly within asteroid belts in space. Processing these rocks requires the use of lasers mounted on mining ships:
- Single-seat ships (e.g., MISC Prospector): Ideal for solo pilots looking to expand their mining operations.
- Multi-well vessels (e.g., Argo MOLE): Designed for group operations, featuring multiple independent drilling stations to tackle the largest reservoirs.
Supply Points
Although most armory shops and general stores sell basic multi-purpose tools, the refinery deck located on L1-type space stations serves as the central supply hub for all mining equipment and consumables.
