Technical training on salvage operations in Star Citizen: component extraction, hull stripping, structural dismantling, refining, and resale.

Wreck recovery (salvage) is an industrial activity that involves the exploitation of abandoned or destroyed vessels in the persistent universe. The purpose of this course is to provide you with a detailed overview of the entire operational process, from the initial inspection of the target to the sale of raw materials. The gameplay revolves around three main areas: Selective extraction: the recovery of functional components (weapons, modules, and cargo) located aboard the wreck before the structure is destroyed. Surface stripping: the extraction of the outer layer of the hull to produce RMC (Recycled Material Composite). Structural deconstruction: the fragmentation and subsequent disintegration of the ship’s framework to generate construction materials. Throughout the various modules, you will study the operation of manual and onboard equipment, the logistical constraints associated with storage in SCU containers, the processing at the refining center, as well as the management of field repairs and the selection of contracts.

    Component Removal and Manual Tools

    Before proceeding with the dismantling of a wreck, the first step is to inspect the vessel to recover the cargo, as well as intact weapons and components up to size 2, provided there is direct access through the designated compartments. This retrieval is performed using modular or specialized hand tools, such as the Multi-Tool equipped with its Cambio-Lite tractor beam or stripping modules, as well as their higher-capacity, autonomous equivalents: the Cambio SRT and the MaxLift Tractor Beam. All of this handling and disassembly equipment is available at specialty stores in major urban centers, including Dumper’s Depot, Tammany & Sons, CenterMass, and Platinum Bay.

    Hull stripping involves removing the outer armor from shipwrecks using specialized beams in order to extract Recycled Material Composite (RMC). Processed by the ship’s onboard filling unit, this resource is packaged in SCU containers for resale or transferred into portable cartridges for use with repair tools. The efficiency of the process depends on selecting the appropriate stripping module—such as the Abrade for balanced performance, the Cinch for precision, or the Trawler for large surfaces—as well as maintaining an optimal distance and angle of attack to avoid material waste.

    Structural Recovery (Fracture and Disintegration)

    Structural salvage allows the hull of a wreck to be recycled through a two-step process: fracturing, which cuts the ship into sections, followed by disintegration, which breaks these sections down into fragments to produce construction materials. Depending on whether it is performed by a light, medium, or heavy ship, this process generates Rubble, Pieces, or Salvage, respectively. These raw materials share the onboard processing unit (filler station) with RMC, which requires the RMC buffer to be emptied first—otherwise the system will become overloaded—before the construction materials can be sent to a refinery.

While ships like the RSI Salvation automate containerization for a single pilot, heavy vessels like the Aegis Reclaimer require manual handling by the crew. Finally, it is recommended to fill the internal buffer after completing the cargo hold to optimize the total volume of material transported per trip.

Finally, commodities are sold at TDD terminals, at disposal sites, or at Grim HEX while monitoring market prices.

    Strategic Operations, Missions, and Scanner Detection

    Salvage operations are managed through the mobiGlas Contracts Manager, where successfully completing introductory missions allows you to build a reputation that unlocks high-value contracts, while avoiding illegal jobs—failure to do so will result in a criminal record. Outside of missions, scanning the environment allows you to locate profitable debris fields by targeting radar signatures with a value of 2,000 or higher. Finally, operational safety requires constant vigilance against piracy, the mandatory carrying of a tractor beam—or risk having your cargo immobilized—and a rigorous selection of sales outlets to sell your stock at the best price.

    • Navigate the mobiGlas contract system and build your reputation as a salvager.
